Not For Profit aged care provider HammondCare has opened a new social club for seniors in Sydney’s southwest.
The Ironbark Social Club at Hammondville is one of 16 clubs operated by HammondCare, and can host activities and outings – including board games, gardening, exercise, crafts, and cooking – for up to 15 older people per day, including people living with dementia.
Running for five days every week, the club will operate from 9:30am to 3:30pm and give older people a break from their home environments, as well as allowing their carers time to work, run errands, or just take a breather.
“When I arrive to pick him up, I hear him laughing. The social club has been a godsend,” says Lee Johnson, the wife and carer of club regular Greg Johnson, who is 68 years old and lives with Alzheimer’s.
The Commonwealth Government-funded club is a continuation of HammondCare’s relocated SWS Social Club, and is open to people with dementia or frail older people in the Campbelltown, Liverpool, Fairfield and Bankstown local government areas.
