Some ABS stats to ponder for single Australians over 65 years of age

  • 77% of single people have only the pension as income
  •  The median net worth is $380,000
  • The median superannuation savings is $13,400

The 2011 McCrindle Baynes research that captured 10,600 retirement village residents found that just 3% of people who join a retirement village had never married, strongly indicating single women who have necver married cannot afford the village purchase. Interestingly 29% were widowed before moving and 6% were divorced – 35% all up.
